Providing contextual guidance for Admins in configuring prompt output
Product Design Internship
Summer 2024
Proposed designs are planned for upcoming releases

My project in Now Assist Admins console (NAAc)
Context
NAAc enables admins to quickly set up and monitor AI-powered applications. During this process, Admins may need additional support in configuring prompting output to ensure correct setup.
Tasks
I was tasked to ideate ways to provide extra help and safeguards for Admins. So that they can set things up with more confidence and minimal errors.
Deliverables
I created UI explorations of how Admins receive instructions and suggestions when producing and testing prompt outputs.
Additionally, I reimagined designs of how prompting should work for Admins based on research insights and inspirations.

It is confidential work, so I can't share too much.

Unlocking new knowledge
Maximizing my time as a remote intern (outside of working projects)
Volunteering for unfamiliar tasks such as moderating sessions, joining hackathons
Meeting teammates, peer interns, leaders, different teams
Traveling to offices in Kirkland and Santa Clara (HQ)
Learning to use company tools, guidelines, and processes to ramp up quickly

Here's what my peers & mentors said about me
"Phuong has been an amazing asset to ServiceNow and especially my team. She was brought in to contribute to a very new and niche technology, Generative AI, and she took the job amazingly well.
She never shy away from learning quickly, adapting to the short timeliness of the project, yet getting the right knowledge and understanding of the domain.
She was always enthusiastic to learn more and kept a hungry attitude to impact with her work."
— Mentor, Senior Staff Product Designer
Reflecting on this experience
I was grateful to have this chance to observe, work at a fast-growing, AI-focused company like ServiceNow, and meet with numerous supportive individuals.
Dedicating time in learning about the company
Whether it is the company's products, OKRs, business models, or cultures, I learned the importance of not just centering myself around the internship project. Understanding more aspects of the company gave me extra context and reflect on what I like or dislike when it comes to building my environment.
Human-centered AI is a challenging and exciting field
I cannot thank the senior-level designers enough for sharing their knowledge with me about designing AI experiences. I learned about the pros and cons, what's different to normal UX process, what remains to be discovered, and how to stay on top of new AI updates.
It is a futuristic and realistic playground for designers to explore and build best practices in designing for AI.
